We have developed the following programs to help you achieve and/or maintain healthy, strong, and happy bodies.  With our programs, you can look forward to feeling better, improved self-image, and a sense of accomplishment in only a few weeks. Your long-term benefits will be a fit, self-confident, and healthier YOU.

 

 

Get Fit for Life

 

This 6-week ongoing program is for ages 13 and up and involves comprehensive group exercise classes aimed at:

 

  • Decreasing your body-fat percentage
  • Improving tone and conditioning of muscles
  • Increasing cardio-respiratory endurance
  • Improving flexibility
  • Increasing your knowledge about basic nutritional principles for fitness

 

In past administrations of this program, all participants lost fat-mass and reported feeling and looking much better.  This is a very enjoyable program that has received wonderful praise from past participants.

 

There will be 3-4 exercises sessions a week, each lasting 60-90 minutes.  All exercise sessions combine strength training of all major muscle groups, step aerobics, flexibility exercises, and a variety of other exercises aimed improving your mind and body.

 

 

Healthy Kids for Life

 

This 6-week ongoing program is for ages 7-12.  This program is primarily designed for overweight or obese children who need to lose or maintain their weight to reduce disease risk factors.  However, all children who would like to improve their fitness levels are welcome to join.  There will be 3 sessions a week, each lasting 30-45 minutes.  Activities will be age-appropriate, fun, and inclusive of all individuals simultaneously.  Regular participation in this program will:

 

  • Improve body composition
  • Improve physical fitness levels
  • Increase basic nutritional knowledge of the participant and his/her parent(s).
  • Enhance self-esteem
  • Reduce anxiety and depression
  • Reduce disease risk factors
  • Improve academic performance
  • Increase chances of becoming healthy self-sufficient adults

This program is supported by the YMCA and the Fresno Department of Community Health.

 

Get Fit for Life-Personal Training

 

When our other programs don’t accommodate your goals or abilities, we have personal training available upon your request.  A fitness trainer will guide you through exercise routines tailored to your specific needs and abilities.

 

Emphasis is placed on letting you become fit at your own pace in an enjoyable routine. Caring, and knowledgeable fitness coaches will work with you one-on-one to gradually help you develop a safe and effective fitness program.

Your personal fitness coach will review your progress and provide you with feedback and advice.  Disabled individuals are welcome.

 

 

 

Fit for Life Basic Health/Fitness Assessment

 

The following physiological measurements will be taken when you participate in any of our above programs, or as a stand alone.

 

 

  • Blood Pressure
  • Body-Fat percentage
  • Body Mass Index (height/weight)
  • Basal Metabolic Rate
  • Flexibility Test
  • Heart rate & cardiovascular fitness
  • Waist-to-hip ratio
  • Blood Glucose
  • Cholesterol
  • Vision

 

This basic health/fitness assessment is not intended to diagnose or treat any disease, but instead, to inform you of your vital stats, and allow us to measure your progress while prescribing appropriate exercises.  If we find any abnormalities in assessment results, we will recommend you seek professional medical attention.  For example, if we find your blood pressure levels to be abnormally high, we would recommend you seek medical attention ASAP.

 

 

 

Bariatric Fitness Program

 

This program is designed especially for morbidly obese individuals (BMI>40), with an emphasis on slow gradual fitness conditioning and activities aimed at improving body composition.  Post and Pre-surgery bariatric patients are encouraged to join this program.

 

Patients from Surgery4weightloss, a local bariatric clinic, have successfully used this program.

 

 

Nutrition lectures/seminars

 

We offer a variety of nutrition lectures and seminars at various locations throughout Fresno.  Our nutrition programs touch on various topics, including diabetes management and healthy eating for youth.

 

We have provided educational nutrition programs at:

  • Ted C. Wills Community Center for seniors
  • Pinedale Boys & Girls Club
  • Central Valley YMCA
  • MCS Center
